You’ve heard them called pessimists, cynics, worry wart’s or naysayers. And everybody knows one and has one in their life. These are the people not living their full potential. They could be a parent, friend or someone in your family. They are the ones that belittle or tell you you cannot achieve something. And slowly, or quickly crush your spirit where your joy you were feeling over a dream slowly dies. Quite often this is where people give up, and stop living their life to their full potential. Don’t do that.
We all encounter people like this. They crop up at any time trying to instill doubt in you. The thing is, it’s important to not listen to these people. Shake them off and move on. All successful people have one thing in common, they’ve overcome those that have tried to fill them with doubt or steer them/you from your current path, from your dream.
But the thing is you are the only person who can accomplish your goals, and no one else can do it for you. Obstacles and those people who try to bring you down will always be there. But it’s up to you to choose who to listen to. Who to share your dreams with, and the wisdom to know when to keep that idea/that dream to yourself.
Someone you respect who tells you that can do something, can achieve whatever you set out to do, whatever you put your mind to. This someone who believes in you, never criticizes or belittles you. These are the people important to keep close to you in your life. These are the only people I want in my life. Pessimists are people you really want to distance yourself from, instead keep those who believe in you close. And dreams that you have… should only be shared once you achieve your dream, otherwise you do risk having someone plant that seed of doubt in your head that you can’t do it. So remember this as you dream and think you can’t do something. It’s only that voice in your head that is keeping you from achieving. Tell it to go away, seriously. And don’t share your dreams too early with anyone, because you do risk doubt being planted in you.
When I wrote my first novel, I never told anyone, NOT family or friend, that I was writing a book. I’m not kidding! I got up out of bed in the wee hours of the morning and wrote, and I did this everyday while raising three small children. I queried literary agents and publishing houses and had doors slammed in my face over and over. But I didn’t allow anyone to deter me. What I did was remember words of wisdom shared by an acquaintance years earlier. That if something isn’t working in the way your going at it. Don’t give up, just take a step back re-evaluate, and THEN come at it in a different direction.
That sound advice is what has gotten me to where I am today. As a New York Times & USA Today bestselling author with over forty published titles, and my big family romance series have become an international fan favorite. I make a great income doing what I love to do, ALL THIS while raising my children, AND WRITING doing what I love to do is my only income source. Who could ask for more.
I am surrounded now, by fans and people who have supported me in achieving my dream. It’s a wonderful feeling to have that. The pessimist, still pops up and so do the challenges, as they do for everyone. It’s just choosing not to listen to those people trying to bring you down. So ask yourself what is your dream? Or is it one that you’ve given up on?
What’s coming next for me? Great question, and one I’m looking forward to.
