Thinking old school, believing all you need to do is fake it till you make it, often causes more problems than it solves.
Faking it till you make it is so 1987. Just in case any of you missed the memo, we’re now living in a world where transparency has won, where speaking the truth, doing the right thing, and practicing kindness is cool. Don’t act like you’ve made it. Instead, be real and talk about the journey of trying to make it. People want to hear your story, how you’re overcoming your obstacles instead of remaining stuck in them. That’s how people relate to one another, and because we’re in the online digital media world of overload, what people are really needing and wanting is to relate to other people—to you and me. If you think back to the ’80s and ’90s, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Faking it till you make it is the greatest flaw of this older generation. It doesn’t work anymore. It doesn’t apply anymore. If you truly want to make it, regardless of what it is you’re doing, you need to stop listening to everyone and start listening to yourself. Stop listening to the negativity and negative people in your life. You really do need to be quite selective about who you’re spending time with. Remember the phrase “Misery loves company”? Maybe you have a mother or grandmother who made negative comments and always added that final jab, “Just wait! You’ll get yours and have a child just like you!” She likely did it because she was pissed at her own mom, and what did she do but turn around and say the same things to you?
If you want to really win, you have to reinforce the positive and be really selective as to who you have in your life. Kindness, generosity, gratitude, and compassion are the good stuff. Once you get there, your mind gets quiet, and all those negative thoughts that plague you leave. It’s important to stop the negative talk, stop reciting your victim story, because no cares if your brother or friend stole a thousand dollars from you six years ago. Get over it. You’re here! When you live in that past of hate and negativity, it only hurts you. Remember, it’s done, over. Move on and get out of that valley.
That brings me to one of the biggest questions you maybe all have been wondering. What happened to my last missing weeks of blogs? Well, life happened, as it happens to all of us. You know, school, teens, the flu…and then the biggest hurdle: My autistic young son, now out of high school, needs a future—a day program, a job, more hurdles, something. But guess what? No one has created anything yet, so it’s been weeks and weeks of going into the trenches. I’ve literally had to create something for him from the ground up. Next week, I’ll share with you more on what I’ve put together, and please feel free to share it with everyone and anyone if you think it will be of help to them. From one mom to another, it really helps to use someone else’s road map to create something for your own child.
