Be strategic instead of reactive! Plus a 99cent sale

I’m back with the second mental mastery tactic, which is being strategic instead of being reactive. If you look at a lot of people around you, friends, family members, even acquaintances, you may start to notice that they live their lives reactively, just trying to get through the day, or maybe this is even how you’ve been living. The victim tries to get through the day, whereas the A player, that successful person who’s rocking this world, focuses more on a higher ambition, a higher vision, instead of being reactive and not having a plan. Victims are the ones who  respond to events as they get hit with them during the day, as crises land at their feet or show up in their inboxes or voicemails.

To avoid this, instead use the routines you already know, such as the five a.m. club, for example. Remember the strategy I wrote about way back when, the one with the 20/20/20 winning formula all the A-game players employ? Well, it starts with taking a few minutes and asking yourself, “What needs to happen today for this to be a great day?” The final part of the 20/20/20 formula involves taking a few minutes and writing down the answer to that question along with your five reminders of what you need to complete that day. Put it on your phone or your fridge or wherever you’ll see it so it keeps you locked on to what you want to achieve.

This leads to the power of goals! Remember, vague plans lead to vague results The A players, those truly successful people, all have plans. They think things through and don’t leave things to reactivity or chance. You don’t get lucky; you make luck. When you see someone successful and find yourself thinking that person must have had a lucky break, that he or she must have been in the right place at the right time, must have the right background, education, knowledge, opportunities…if you’re thinking any of that or about how you’ve had a tough time and no breaks, remember that you make your own luck. What the victim understands as being fortunate, the leader understands as hard work. So don’t be reactive, be strategic. Write your plans in a journal, think things through, and set your goals. Once again, don’t react. Be much more strategic.

So ask yourself now, “What needs to happen today for this to be a great day?”

Did you know there are eight dominant beliefs that will help you get the things you want? Everyone really does have what it takes to create a beautiful life, and that life starts with your routines and habits, the things you do every day.

Let’s start with the first mentality, that of the A player who never declines. It really is a simple idea: Decline happens when you’re most successful, and it’s something we don’t even realize. When you’re successful, that’s when you’re most vulnerable. If you’re running a business right now and are rocking it, at the top of your game, or if you have a career where you’re on top of the world, you can still slip into a dangerous place, because nothing fails like success.

How this happens is that when we become successful, as human beings, we fall in love with our winning formula. It becomes easy for us to start stagnating, to listen to people who say, “Wow, you’ve achieved more than anyone I’ve seen,” and then we start to think about slowing down, maybe writing less, taking early retirement, not going that extra mile anymore for others in our communities, or not getting up early. Instead, we decide to sleep in and then begin deciding not to learn anything new.

The most important thing to remember is that you don’t want to decline from your success, no matter how successful you are, how physically fit you become, or how much money you start making. Dial up your productivity. Don’t be successful for just a week or in just one window of opportunity. Keep your boots on the ground and think about how to sustain that success over a lifetime. If you want to keep that physically fit body you’re now rocking, you need to maintain it, and how you do that is by not becoming complacent.

Keep learning every day, and never lose that fire inside. This comes down to two things. Always ask yourself, “How can I make everything I touch better than how I found it?” and “How can I make everyone I meet more inspired than when I met them?” Write down the answers to these questions, and post them where you can see them every day. By making a written statement and posting it everywhere instead of being complacent and letting life pass you by, you will keep going and nail down your powerful new habits so you can lift the bar even higher.

We tell our kids this, and our friends, but most of us don’t really believe it deep down. If you think about it, how often do you find yourself slipping into that place of needing to find a way to fit in? The only problem with that is that to have the results in your life that only five percent of the population has, you need to think and perform and be like the five percent of the population who are taking charge of their 

lives. When you start owning who you are, owning your power, being more productive, more loving, more physically fit and energetic and happy, you’re lifting your standards and are no longer settling for mediocrity. Honestly, did any of us ever say, “When I grow up, I’m going to settle for being mediocre, average, and fitting in”? Of course not. The problem is that most people spend their time watching TV, being reactive, being busy just being busy, planning, and playing the victim, letting life coast by.

What you want to be is an anti-victim, an A player, and a leader. Own your inner visionary and you can change the world. Did you know that every visionary was first ridiculed before he or she was revered?
 
It happened to me. When I first started out as an author, many of my family, friends, acquaintances, and even fellow authors would pooh-pooh me for even thinking I could succeed, saying things to bring me down instead of getting behind me and saying things to lift me up. They had that negative instinct, which is the first reactive instinct in all of us. Just know that you really can change the world and do amazing things, or you can choose to fit in with the herd. You can’t do both. I chose not to fit in with the herd but rather to walk that lonely path that has given me so much self-confidence, love, and gratitude, and it’s changed me into a better person.
 
One of the challenges is understanding how. How do you manage to be different from everyone else? How do you manage when people don’t understand you? When you’re a leader and are running your best life, it’s a lonely sport. People will wonder why you’re getting up so early, why you’re being so positive, why you’re not participating in a conversation to gossip and tear someone down, why you’re radiating your best and being optimistic or loving with strangers, why you’re doing world-class work when most people are just coasting, just getting by. No one signed on for settling, so don’t settle, and don’t spend the best hours of your day, or your life, being busy just being busy. Embrace the fact that you’re different, and be okay with every part of yourself, inside and out, that’s different from everyone else.
